All around, hiking is probably one of the better ways to get in shape. You’re not only exercising every muscle in your body, but you get to take in the scenic beauty of nature. If you’ve spent the last few months on the couch, however, you may want to do some pre-hike exercises before you make the trek.
When you’re body has been stationary, your muscles begin to atrophy and doing something as simple as squat thrusts and a couple 20 minute walks a few days before your hike will wake you body and begin reusing your rested muscles.
Also focus on your back muscles, as hiking with a backpack will require good posture.
When you’re done focusing on retraining your body, you’ll want to check for some pretty basic hiking gear – a backpack, binoculars, a first-aid kit, food, water and a cell-phone. You may also want to go with a group of friends, not only for safety precautions, but to enjoy the serene environment with your pals.
