Adventure Camping and Hiking Gear
Are you like me and sometimes like to just get away by myself, without the phone, TV or the computers?

Sometimes I just like to grab my Camping and Hiking Gear, load it in the truck and hit the road. I drive sometimes for hours until I find a new spot to camp that I haven’t been before.

First I grab my Eureka solo tent, my Slumberjack Sleeping bag and sleeping gear, my cooking gear, camping knivcs, flashlights, compass, my water microfilters for clean water treatment, and lastly my backpack.

Just having the quiet time to myself, is so peaceful. I spend a few days, and come back to my job refreshed ready to take on the world. Give it a try and see if you don’t enjoy the one-on-one with Mother Nature.

Camping and Survival KnivesRecently on a three day camping trip, I wanted to see how many times I would reach for my trusty Camping Knives.

It was amazing how many times I did reach for either my Straight-edge Camping Knife, or the Folding Blade Camping Knife that I have brought along. And because we were in a very wooded area I also brought along a Camping Axe for firewood.

Having done my homework before heading out camping, I knew to purchase knives that were made with high quality steel for years of usage. And what good is a camping knife if it is not sharp when you need to use it, by sharpening your knives properly, they will last for many years.

So do your homework and purchase high quality camping knives for all your upcoming camping and hiking adventures.

CAMPING GEAR GUIDE

CAMPING GEAR GUIDEThe type of camping gear necessary depends on the type of trip you have planned.

The best place to start any trip is by making very clean detailed list for your Camping Gear.

We all know the importance of a quality camping tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping pads.

However, by making detailed lists you can make your camping trip as hassle-free as possible. It forces you to think about how will I cook my food? Do I need a tent footprint to protect the tent floor? What types of food will I be cooking, and what kind of cooking gear will I require? What is the best type of compass to take along? On this trip will I need a camp axe or just good quality camping knives?

It is very easy to overlook simple things like a First Aid kit, or a hammer to put in your tent stakes.

Camp lighting is a very important part of camping gear. Using flashlights, lanterns, headlamps, may just save your life in an emergency situation. So be prepared with extra batteries and/or fuel.

And since healthy drinking water is essential, make sure you take along adequate camp drinking water treatments, such as water purifiers, water filters, and purifer tablets to ensure your safe health with clean drinking water.

CAMPING KNIVESCamping Knives are a necessary and important part of your outdoor camping gear.

Any camping knife should be made of quality steel and be able to hold a sharp edge. Poor knife quality means having your camping knives break when you need it most.

Two important factors concerning camping knives are: they should be kept clean and sharp at all times, and be handled with great respect for safety. A dull knife is a dangerous instrument. I usually ends up cutting you instead of what you want it to cut. It is a good idea to learn how to properly sharpen all your knives, from pocket knives to folding knives, including straight edge knives.

This is how you sharpen your camping knives. Start with a fine grit stone and a small bottle of honing oil or just use water. Place a few drops of oil or water on your stone and then draw your knife gently across the surface at about a 20º angle. Repeat this slicing motion for both sides, being sure to draw the entire length of the blade across the stone. Gradually reduce the pressure slightly with each stroke until you a sharp edge to your knife. A well cared for knife will not require many strokes to get a sharp edge.

Now that you have a sharp knife you need to be even more careful when handling it.

You will find your wilderness camping knife very valuable. NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT A GOOD KNIFE. Always take a knife when going Hiking, Backpacking or Camping.

Fixed Blade Camping Knives

Your camping survival Knife should be a strong Fixed Blade Knife that will tasks easily. Your knife will probably be cutting, chopping, skinning, carving, etc. It is essential that the knife be very strong.

There are a number of cheap, poor quality knives on the market today. However, they tend to have a weak point where the blade meets the handle. Go for a high quality knife. Remember you knife is the most important tool you’ll carry.

Tang

Your knife must have full tang. The tang is the portion of the blade that extends into the handle for strength.

Handle

Select a Survival Knife with a solid handle. Your Survival Knife handle should fit your hand nicely with a grooved handle. A smooth handle is slippery when wet, making it dangerous.

Folding Pocket Knives are a wonderful accessory to carry in your pocket.

Always practice Knife Safety and keep your Knife clean and sharpened.
